This study was the first one conducted at the National Gallery of Art and my first encounter with live feedback from observers visiting the Gallery. The curiosity for this study was to work within Cezanne’s framework using modern colors and emulate the oils using the acrylics having now access to see the actual brush strokes. Two types of acrylics were used: the traditional and the newer “open” acrylics that have a longer drying time. During the study, subtle changes were introduced to elicit feedback from the observers with some of the changes removed and others added. The most obvious changes are enhancements made to the facial expression.
