National Gallery of Art

These studies were conducted as a Copyist at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. The Gallery provides the opportunity to study the techniques and styles of previous artists up close, much of which is lost in JPEG images. Additionally, the Gallery provides a stage on which to perform, i.e., paint, in front of a “live studio audience.” The comments and feedback from the audience, or observers, are invaluable in experimentation and evaluating techniques and styles in these studies. The models, that is the figures in the painting, also do not tire from posing.
