Interpretation of “Woman with a Parasol – Madame Monet and her Son”
2013
acrylic on canvas
overall: 88.90 x 70.49 cm (35 x 27 3/4 in).

This study was the first impressionist painting attempted. The curiosity was to understand the captivation of such works and emulate the quick brush strokes indicative of plein air painting as they manifested themselves in Monet’s work. I initially attempted to stay true to the original, but then the effect of the wind caught my attention. Hence, the biggest difference between this interpretation and the original is the increase in wind motion.

Capturing the wind motion introduced me to the value of a fan brush and glazing compounds to effect the emulation.
